This awe-inspiring transformation comes courtesy of John and Sherry at Young House Love.  Their totally adorable blog focusses on their obsession with updating their home.  Their first house was an old, seventies model with ugly drapes and ghastly wall paper but they were able to flip it into a modern home, crammed with plenty of style and comfort to boot.  I love it!  My current home screams for an update and I can’t help smiling every time I look at these photos.  The idea of turning a dark, dank living room into a personal oasis thrills me.  I can’t wait to put some elbow grease into our humble abode and see what amazing space lies underneath all of our paneling and musty carpet.

It has snowed for the third time this winter and reports say we can expect it to snow twice more.  This is quite unusual weather for these here parts but it is certainly exciting for a California transplant.  :)  While I love looking at the snow, it is less than exciting to get out in.  It is super slippery, not to mention absolutely freezing!!! It is pretty to look at but I wouldn’t mind a reprieve. Check out these pics.  The off-white siding on the house looks super dirty next to the bright white of the snow!!!

Happy Belated birthday to me!  Wil and I celebrated in Shreveport, LA as is our custom.  We hung out at Bass Pro, snagged yummy chocolate treats at an amazing chocolate shoppe, and dined at Joe’s Crab Shack.  We had a blast and can’t wait to go back for Wil’s bday.  :)

Poor Confused Texans

Texans are confused by solid green lights, indicating they should yield to oncoming traffic before turning left, so the state has decided that flashing, yellow arrows are a better alternative.  WTF?  Seriously.  I knew it was confusing, at least for Texarkanan’s, because they often wait until they get an arrow before even budging.  They refuse to pull out, even a smidge.  I should also mention that they are often confused by center turning lanes.  They instead, stop in the middle of the inside lane to signal their pending turn.  They are also quite befuddled by traffic.  It drives me nuts!  Poor Texans, they obviously had difficulty with Driver’s Ed 101.  This alternative to better education is a huge waist of my tax dollars.  Scroll down to read the complete story.

Texas Could Use Yellow Arrow For Left Turns

ARLINGTON, Texas — Drivers making left turns at busy intersections across Texas could get some colorful, flashing help to stay safe.

The Federal Highway Administration wants cities and states to begin replacing solid green lights with flashing yellow arrows, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday.

A solid green light sometimes confuses drivers into thinking they always have the right of way, in spite of other traffic. The flashing yellow arrow makes it clearer that drivers must proceed cautiously before turning left, federal officials say.

A pilot project is planned for Arlington, host of Sunday’s Super Bowlat Cowboys Stadium between the Green Bay Packers and thePittsburgh Steelers, but not until long after the game is in the sports history books.

The pilot project will involve selected intersections, said Paul Iwuchukwu, Arlington traffic engineer. The most likely candidates are major north-south routes, such as Collins and Cooper streets.

Arlington, a city of nearly 400,000 located midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, is a tourist draw along Interstate 30 as the home of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers Ballpark, Six Flags Over Texas, and numerous other attractions and businesses.

Motorist wanting to turn left would first get a green arrow, as they currently do, giving them the right of way. Under the plan, the green arrow would switch to a steady yellow arrow, then a flashing yellow arrow, giving motorists permission to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic.

The flashing yellow arrow would then change to a steady yellow arrow, and then a steady red arrow, when turning is no longer permissible.

Arlington has 340 signalized intersections, and about three-fourths of them could be candidates for a flashing yellow arrow, according to Iwuchukwu.

No total cost estimate was available, but a typical traffic intersection device with five signal heads costs around $700, he said.

The boy surprised me after work with a Carvel ice cream cake for my birthday, complete with eight candles (an inside joke of sorts).  It was super sweet.  :)

Yay for birthdays!!! I got this sewing machine from my Mom and I couldn’t be happier.  I am in domestic bliss!  I have been asking for a sewing machine for quite some time and didn’t hesitate to jump right in with a project.  I made a couple of oh-so-cute throw pillows for the big, navy blue, hunk-of-a-man couch.  They really make the couch look more stylish.  :)  I have actually noticed myself sitting on said couch much more often … it may just be growing on me.  Pictures of pillows (and the couch) are on their way.  Stay tuned!
